Zinfandel is known as California’s red-wine grape because it is not widely grown in other parts of the world. It was introduced to California in the 1850s and is related to Italy’s Primitivo grape. Vinified in many styles, the name Zinfandel usually refers to hearty, robust reds with berry, spicy, peppery flavors with depth, complexity and longevity. White Zinfandel is fruity-flavored, slightly sweet and ranges in color from light to dark pink.
