| Washington State has so much to offer. From the pristine waters of Puget Sound and the pounding surf of the Pacific Ocean to the majestic Cascade and Olympic Mountains and the rich agriculture of the Columbia Valley, a visitor can spend a week, month or a year discovering the beauty, bounty, splendor, and over 300 wineries in Washington.
The Region that we are calling "Western Washington" is not an official Appellation (AVA) designation, but our listing of the wineries outside the boundaries of the official AVAs.

| The Cascade Mountain range slices Washington into two distinct climate zones. In the west, the land is hilly and evergreen, embracing the waters and islands of Puget Sound. A tour of the wineries in western Washington takes you through a variety of spectacular scenery, always with beautiful mountains on the horizon. The majority of the wines produced here are from grapes purchased in Eastern Washington. |

| In the east, the Columbia Valley, which comprises one-third of the state’s landmass and produces 98% of its wine grapes, is protected from rainfall. The result is warm, dry, sunny days with cool nights in the summer and crisp cold winters that allow the vines to go dormant and store nutrients. Eastern Washington vineyards are planted on gently rolling hills that are bordered on the north by the Okanogan Highlands, on the east by the Palouse and on the south by the Columbia River and Oregon’s Blue Mountains. ---Washington Wine Commission |
