Riesling used to be called Johannisberg Riesling, but the word Johannisberg attached to this varietal is now prohibited in the USA due to a conflict with the German Region called Johannisberg. A light, fragrant, complex varietal that thrives in cooler climates, has a low yield, and produces a wide-ranging style of white wines, usually quite low in alcohol content (10% to 11%). It is delightfully fruity with an aroma of peaches or apricots and ranges from dry to off-dry. It is especially refreshing served chilled in hot weather and pairs well with light fare and picnic foods.
Late Harvest Reisling produces the legendary sweet dessert styles. Make a well in a scoop of vanilla ice cream, pour in some Late Harvest Riesling, chill during dinner, and serve a delicious dessert surprise.
