Mourvedre, grapes produce garnet-colored wines with spicy, peppery characteristics. Normally used to improve color and structure in blends, it is more recently being enjoyed by itself. Originally from Spain and then grown in southern France, small amounts are currently being grown in California and Australia, and is also known as Mataro, Balzac or Esparate.
