| In 1925 Joe Cotta Sr. founded Cotta Properties, and after many successful years of growing wine grapes and other agricultural commodities, John and James Cotta (Grandsons of Joe Sr.) started producing award-winning wines under their Las Vias label in 1986. They began vinifiying grapes from the family's central coast vineyards under the Vineyard Select Baywood label, and immediately won awards in major wine competitions.
